SALT LAKE CITY — TEDxSaltLakeCity will be hosting guest speaker Nubia Peña for their 11th annual TEDx event. Peña, a community and policy advocate, will serve as the emcee for the event. The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center will host the event Sept. 25.
TEDxSaltLakeCity said the event is being held “in the spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading.'” The program is built by local organizers, who create events to bring people, and their ideas together.
“TEDxSaltLakeCity provides the audience with an opportunity to practice proximity, strengthen connections, and engage with compassion and civility around widely diverse ideas,” Peña said.
Volunteers from local communities independently produce and organize each city’s TEDx event. The events are a place for live speakers and performers to come together.
TEDx events aim to spark deep discussions and build connections in communities. The events have often created dialogue and given the people of Salt Lake City a place to share their passions, ideas, and experiences.
TEDx emcee
Peña has worked as an advocate for underrepresented populations extensively. She has collaborated with cross-sector stakeholders during the past 20 years and has sought to bring awareness to interpersonal and community issues.
Peña currently serves as the director of the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs. The division’s mission is to promote inclusivity for the growing communities of diversity in Utah.
“It is a privilege to volunteer as this year’s emcee and serve alongside such a passionate and talented organizing committee who seek to inspire, innovate, and cultivate curiosity,” said Peña.
