UTA announces the new 600 South TRAX Station opening

SALT LAKE CITY —  On Tuesday the Utah Transit Authority (UTA), announced the opening of a new TRAX station near the intersection of 600 south and Main Street in Salt Lake City.

The new station will serve UTA’s Blue, Green, and Red lines. The new station is adjacent to the Ballpark, Central Ninth, and Central City neighborhoods. 

The station, located in the Transportation Division and Redevelopment Agency (RDA’s) State Street Project Area, supports UTA’s long-term vision of a light rail system. The agency said it will provide commuters with more access to Salt Lake City’s expanding urban core. 

“The continued expansion of public transportation is a critical piece of how we continue to strive toward equitable economic development in our growing city,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall.

The station is a result of combined efforts. UTA said the RDA supported the station’s funding needs by bringing on four different developers. Also, the RDA Board of Directors, and SLC Council, approved substantial funds for the project. 

In the past, the RDA financed the 900 South TRAX Station. 

“This project was truly one of collaboration. Local government agencies and developers were brought together by a shared goal to address the evolving transportation needs of our rapidly growing City, and the Wasatch Front at large,” said Carlton Christensen, Chair of the UTA Board of Trustees. 

The TRAX station also includes local artist Jiyoun Lee-Lodge’s artwork, titled “The Crossing.” This artwork joins a collection of existing public artworks located throughout Salt Lake City at UTA transit stations, said UTA.
