NICUs at Intermountain Health hospitals get a visit from Santa

SALT LAKE CITY — Santa Claus made some special trips this holiday season to Intermountain Health hospitals in Riverton, Murray, and Ogden.
Claus visited babies in the neonatal intensive care units at Intermountain’s Ogden and Murray hospitals. He posed for photos with tiny preemie babies, according to an Intermountain Health press release.
Intermountain shared photos of the babies with their parents as a keepsake.
Alice Casper, the nurse manager of the NICU at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, said that having a baby in the NICU is difficult on families year-round.
“The Santa photos are a fun way to make the best of having your baby in the hospital,” Casper said.

In addition to holiday festivities in the NICU, nurses working in each hospital’s mother and baby department have been serving as Santa’s elves. They’ve been wrapping up babies born this December in Christmas stockings, according to a press release.
The stockings, like the preemie Santa photos, are meant as a memento of the special time.
According to Intermountain Health, over 2,000 babies have been delivered at its Riverton hospital in 2023. Over 2,100 babies were born at Ogden’s McKay-Dee Hospital.
