SALT LAKE CITY — The Payson Police Department ordered a neighborhood to shelter in place after it said an individual fled from a traffic stop on Tuesday night.
Police said they did not have information indicating the person was a danger or threat to the community. The order was lifted by Wednesday morning.
The general area of the shelter in place was near 400 N. 300 East in Payson.
Sgt. Austin Cobbley with Payson police said the original traffic stop was in nearby Spanish Fork.
Police were made aware of a problem when a citizen called to report a car that did not belong to them in their driveway.
Cobbley said police recovered the abandoned vehicle from the residence, but that the individual had fled on foot.
Police said residents reported sightings of the person in question.
Cobbley said the shelter in place was issued to limit exposure and to keep police resources dedicated to finding this person.
Police deployed K9 officers as well as police drones, and were aided by surrounding police agencies, though it is unknown at this time which agencies are helping.
