Shoplifter injury results in charges for 7-Eleven clerk

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A convenience store clerk faces charges after police say he aggressively tracked down a suspected shoplifter, causing an injury.
The clerk was working at a Salt Lake City 7-Eleven when he went after the alleged thief in his car.
Shoplifter injury leads to charges
According to police, 60-year-old Ronald Kirkham tried to detain the suspect until cops arrived. In the process, he drove over the legs of the suspected shoplifter with his vehicle, causing injury. He also hit a nearby home, according to the police affidavit, which caused severe structural damage.
Kirkham reportedly then left the crash scene and called 911.
He was later arrested for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury and leaving the scene of a crash.
An updated condition of the man hit by the car was not immediately available. Police also did not specify at which 7-Eleven in Salt Lake City the clerk worked.
