MIDVALE, Utah — Utah Transit Authority police are investigating a shot fired at a TRAX train this morning.
Carl Arky, a spokesperson for UTA, told Dave & Dujanovic that the incident happened just after 5 a.m.
A rider heard the shot and then called UTA’s dispatch to report the incident. Nobody was injured.
“As a result [the train] was able to pull into the next station and they were met by local law enforcement. Officials were able (to) take a look at the train, make sure nobody was injured, and then the train was able to resume its route,” said Arky.
Officials determined that the shot came from a pellet gun. “I think they just looked at the point of impact and were able to tell it was a pellet … and the fact that it didn’t penetrate the glass,” said Arky.
Only one shot came into contact with the train window.
The incident occurred between the Midvale Center Station and the Midvale Fort Union Station.
Arky said there were 30-35 passengers aboard the train when it was hit.
“I think there’s a lot of work still yet to be done,” said Arky of the investigation into the origin of the shot.
“It’s a shame that somebody felt that they would take a shot at a train when people were just trying to go to work and go about their business,” said Arky.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
