SALT LAKE CITY — On Friday, around 11:26 p.m. community members around the Central 9th neighborhood in Salt Lake City reported sounds of gun fire. There were also reports of sounds of people fighting near 625 South Washington Street.

On Friday afternoon, The Salt Lake City Police Department said via a news release that when officers arrived they did not see any victims or any fighting.

Apparently those involved in the shooting and several witnesses left in cars soon after the shooting.

Detectives with the SLCPD’s Gang Unit are currently investigating. So far detectives have been able to recover a stolen firearm and have made two arrests.

They are not releasing the names of the two men at this time.

One suspect is being held on allegedly  ‘possession of a weapon by a restricted person, possession of a stolen firearm, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.’ The other was booked on suspicion ‘of possession of a weapon by a restricted person and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.’

“Although our investigation is ongoing, this shooting appears to have been a reckless act of violence,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown via news release. “While we try to prevent violence from occurring, when it does, we will conduct thorough investigations to hold offenders accountable and to help ensure that Salt Lake City remains safe.”
