OREM — School officials were dismayed to discover a scorch mark at midfield of Timpanogos High School’s turf playing surface on Thursday morning. Those officials suspect it’s the result of vandalism.
Rich Stowell with Alpine School District said that burn mark is going to be expensive to repair — potentially to the tune of $10,000, or even “much more than that,” he said.
“We’re just hopeful that the police can find who did it, and that we can get it repaired quickly and get ready for the start of school in August,” Stowell said.
He said artificial turf is difficult to replace, especially on such short notice — Timpanogos High School’s first day is fast approaching, set for Aug. 13.
“Something like this, it’s just really disappointing that we have to spend so much money on a repair for the athletic field that was caused by vandalism,” Stowell said.
There was no word on whether law enforcement had any leads into the apparent vandalism.
