Overheated brakes to blame for Sunday truck fire on I-15

SALT LAKE CITY — Two drivers escaped injury Sunday morning after their semitruck caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 in-between Leeds and Harrisburg.

Hurricane Valley Fire officials said they responded to an early-morning call and when they arrived, found the rear end of the trailer “fully involved” in flames.

Hurricane Valley Fire, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Utah Highway Patrol all responded to the call for help.

Officials said that by the time they arrived the drivers had already disconnected the cab from the trailer, however, flames had moved to the trailer’s interior.

The fire began because of overheating brakes.

Traffic on southbound I-15 was impacted while first responders doused the blaze. No injuries were reported.
