2 dead after fall in Bryce Canyon

BRYCE CANYON CITY — Two people died in Bryce Canyon after falling off a cliff near Inspiration Point on the afternoon of April 29.
According to Wade Mathews, a spokesman for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report that two people had fallen.
A tourist saw the people, who were already dead, and notified park rangers. They contacted the sheriff’s department.
The victims have not been identified yet — one was an adult male and the other an adult female. They fell 380 feet and police do not think it was suspicious.
According to Mathews, their last known residence was in Florida, however, it was found in “unlivable” condition. Officials believe they were living out of a U-Haul at the time of their deaths. It was found nearby.
According to Mathews, authorities believe the victims fell last night or early this morning. However, they believe the victims climbed over a railing in the area and fell. He noted that it snowed yesterday, creating slippery conditions.
The bodies were recovered from the canyon via helicopter. An investigation is ongoing.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reminded park visitors to recreate safely. Obey all signage, do not cross safety measures, such as railings, and remain aware of weather conditions.
