Utah County Bomb Squad detonates ‘suspicious item’ on Nephi road

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah County authorities detonated a “suspicious item” that was found on the side of the road in Nephi Sunday evening.
According to the Nephi Police Department, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of an item found near the Nephi City gun range at 42 E. 200 North.
Nephi PD officers assessed the situation and called the Utah County Bomb Squad for assistance.
“The Bomb Squad investigated the device and, for safety reasons, opened it remotely from the Nephi City gun range. The remote detonation was heard by many in the community,” Nephi PD said in a press release.
Police reported that nothing of “immediate concern” was found inside the item.
“We commend the community member for their quick thinking and for reporting this suspicious item. Their prompt action allowed us to rapidly deploy resources and ensure the safety of our citizens,” Nephi PD said.
According to the police, the scene has been cleared and there is no threat to public safety.
