District clarifies cap gun incident at Fremont High

OGDEN, Utah — The Weber School District said a student brought a cap gun to Fremont High School in recent months. But they can’t release much more information.
The district’s response came after KSL and other news outlets submitted media inquiries for more information.
“A couple of months ago, we did have a student at Fremont High School fire a cap gun while at school,” said Lane Findlay, a district spokesman, in a statement.
“The situation was investigated by law enforcement along with school and district officials,” he said. “Due to student privacy laws, I can not discuss the details of the investigation or any disciplinary action that was taken.”
Instead, Findlay provided the Weber School District’s options after a Safe Schools Violation.
First, the problem is investigated by school officials. Then, the district reviews what happened.
There may be a hearing to discuss possible further actions including removal or reinstatement of the student.
Student privacy laws restrict the public from knowing the outcome.
