SALT LAKE CITY – With the addition of Utah Court of Appeals Judge Jill M. Pohlman, the Utah Supreme Court boasts a female majority for the first time in state history.

Judge Pohlman was unanimously confirmed by the Utah Senate on Wednesday, August 18. Pohlman joins Diana Hagen and Paige Petersen as female justices in the Utah Supreme Court.

This move is a step in the right direction for representation and diversity. Our youth can benefit from seeing women in positions of power.

“The representation does matter. It means a lot to women lawyers.” Lauren Shurman, President of Women Lawyers of Utah and Partner at Mayer Brown, said. “They bring their experiences to bear on the way that they view the facts and the history that’s involved in a case. It’s important to bring a diverse array of perspective to any particular problem.”
