SALT LAKE CITY — Have you heard from Saria Barney Hildabrand? She is a Utah woman missing in Alaska, and her family said they need help from her Utah friends.

“She has a bunch of friends in Utah,” her mother, Meredith Barney, told KSL.

Hildabrand is 21 years old, graduated from Hillcrest High School and is a member of the Alaska National Guard.

Barney said that Hildabrand transferred to Alaska six months ago to be with her husband who is stationed at Fort Richardson.

“She transferred up here so that she could get into the medical program with the National Guard quicker than she could in Utah,” Barney said. “She came up here to be with him and then to try to further her future quicker.”

The day Hildabrand went missing

According to Barney, Hildabrand left her home Sunday morning (Aug. 6) in Anchorage for work, but she never made it there. She didn’t take her cellphone, which is out of character for her.

Hildabrand is 5-foot-8, with brown hair and green eyes. She is Asian-American, and was last seen wearing all-black clothing and shoes and a black crossbody bag.

“She’s amazing. Everyone who meets her just loves her, and she has really great energy,” her mother said. “She’s very self-competent, like very strong, very funny, beautiful.”

Hildabrand’s friend Kylee Clark describes Saria as an amazing friend.

“She was the life of the party. She showed up,” Clark told KSL. The last time she spoke with Hildabrand was last week.

“We were talking about her being in Alaska, and how happy she is up there. She’d made friends with her husband’s friends, she really liked them,” Clark said. “She only had good things to say about the people down there.”

How Hildabrand’s Utah friends can help

Hildabrand’s family asks her Utah friends to think about the last time they heard from her. If they have had contact with her, or have any information that could be helpful, please contact the Anchorage Police Department at 1-907-786-8900.

The family has created a GoFundMe account* to mitigate the costs of their trip to Anchorage. They have also created a Facebook page to allow for easier communication between those who are searching for Hildabrand.
