SALT LAKE CITY — A man who lived in Utah for the past year is among the more than 1,000 people killed in Israel in a Hamas terror attack.

Utah Rabbi Avremi Zippel confirmed the information via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Lotan Abir was 24, and was a DJ that spent about one year in Utah before he moved back to Israel earlier this year.

Community of young Israelis in Utah

“There’s a remarkable community here in Utah of young Israelis,” said Rabbi Avremi Zippel. “I think a lot of people don’t know that. Utah’s home to a very vibrant Israeli community.”

Abir reportedly went to a rave on Friday night before he was killed.

While in Utah, he was a member of the Young Jewish Professional Utah community, where he made a lot of friends.

‘This was a DJ who loved live music. And now his family is struggling to find a musician to play at his funeral.”

Zippel told KSL NewsRadio the funeral will be Wednesday morning, in Israel

The Israeli government declared war on the militant group Hamas after a surprise weekend attack from the Gaza Strip. The Associated Press reports that nearly 2,000 people have been killed in Israel and Gaza. The Associated Press also reports that Hamas is holding about 150 soldiers and civilians as hostages.

This story will be updated.
