CEDAR CITY, Utah — A video reportedly shot in Cedar City on Monday night and showing kids in blackface is getting a lot of attention on social media.

The video shows three teens in blackface dressed up like criminals. Other students in the group are dressed as police officers.

The video was first posted on TikTok but has since been removed. However, now, other users have reposted it.

The original poster said the video showing kids in blackface was taken in Walmart in Cedar City.

“We don’t tolerate discrimination or demeaning behavior of any kind and are incredibly disappointed by what is shown in this video,” said a Walmart spokesperson to KSL NewsRadio. “After learning these people were in the building, our associates immediately instructed them to leave the property.”

Cedar City Police said in a statement they are aware of the video, but they were not called to the scene last night.

The police department is condemning this kind of behavior. And encouraging everyone to be mindful when sharing videos of juveniles on social media.

The Iron County School District said in a statement that they are investigating.

“We are taking this matter seriously,” the statement reads. “We have opened an investigation into the student involvement and will take appropriate action once that investigation is complete.”

Furthermore, Jeanetta Williams, President of the NAACP Utah, told KSL NewsRadio that she spoke with police and the school district.

“They’ve identified every person that’s in the video and there will be consequences,” said Williams.

However, Shauna Lund, communications & foundation coordinator for the school district said with FERPA they will not release individuals’ names or the specific actions taken.

The governor has also reacted to the video.

In a statement, he said: “We strongly condemn racism in all its forms and we call on every Utahn to reject such offensive stereotypes, slurs and attitudes. We must do better.”
