Five injured in West Valley City electrical accident

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Five people were injured in an electrical accident on Saturday after working on a panel outside of a building.
West Valley City Fire Department said a call came in at 9:15 a.m. about five people who were electrocuted at 4837 West 2400 South in West Valley City.
WVCFD Battalion Chief Nick Dodge said one person was transported to a local hospital with flash burns on the front of their body. Two others were transported to another hospital with flash burns to their hands and faces.
The last two people involved in the accident were not transported.
Dodge said the workers were a part of an electrical contractor company. The name of the company was not at this time.
According to Dodge, five ambulances, five heavy apparatuses and two battalion chiefs responded to the accident. A helicopter was also dispatched in case responders needed that transportation.
Rocky Mountain Power responded to the scene to tend to loss of power in the building. According to Dodge, no other loss of power occurred to the local area around the building.
“There ended up being no fire, it was just kind of a flash. Once the electricity broke the circuit the power was cut.” Dodge said. “The building that they were working on is now without power and will be for some time while the investigation is conducted.”
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
