Woman stabbed multiple times by her Chrysalis client, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A caregiver is in the hospital after being stabbed by her own client at Chrysalis in St. George.
On Saturday at 2 a.m. St. George police received reports about someone who was stabbed on Saturday at 1287 W Shadow Point Dr. inside of unit 15 in St. George.
According to a police affidavit, neighbors reported they could see their neighbor covered in blood and that she was running and screaming on the street, knocking on doors nearby.
When officers arrived to the scene, the woman was found to have significant blood loss but was able to communicate to officers that she was stabbed by her client, 72-year-old Keith D. Johnson, who was a Chrysalis client.
Police said they found Johnson across the street from where the woman was found by police.
“Once Keith was grabbed by multiple officers to be placed in handcuffs, Keith began pulling away from arresting officers,” the police affidavit said.
The affidavit stated that officers heard Johnson claim the woman he allegedly stabbed had attacked him, he was then put into a police car and taken into custody for interfering with a peace officer.
“Officers were informed by medical personnel that the wounds sustained to the victim appeared to be defensive in nature,” the affidavit stated. “The victim sustained five separate injuries to her body.”
According to police, before going into emergency surgery, the woman who was stabbed claimed Johnson had stabbed her from behind.
“The victim stated she was sitting on the couch of the residence when she was attacked unprovoked by Keith from behind,” the affidavit said. “The victim stated she was stabbed multiple times before falling to the floor.”
The woman then said she was able to “grab ahold of the knife” to get Johnson to stop stabbing her, that’s when police said she was able to escape and get help from neighbors.
According to police, the woman is in the hospital and she is recovering from surgery.
