RICHFIELD, Utah —  A fire Thursday night has displaced 70 people in Richfield according to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. at the Ville Apartments on 647 South Main St. In a press release, Richfield City Police said that all tenants were believed to be evacuated, and accounted for.

Some residents were transported to the Sevier Valley Hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Authorities are working with the Utah chapter of the American Red Cross to help residents find shelter and other necessities. And the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Relief Society President, Marion Allen, said Richfield residents have already responded to the call for help.

“We got here to the fairgrounds and people started bringing blankets and clothing and food,” Allen told KSL. “Just a great response from the Richfield area.

And a fast response, too, according to Allen.

“We had a text go out to the people in our ward and in our stake, and immediately started getting phone calls.”

According to authorities, the Sevier County Fairgrounds was offered as shelter to those who were displaced.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated.
