PALMYRA, NEW YORK — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said they will now be preserving site of the former Hill Cumorah Pageant in New York. The Church has also announced For the Strength of Youth Conferences will be back starting Summer of 2022.
“With the Hill Cumorah Pageant now in the past, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is engaging in a long-term project to preserve the historic and sacred nature of the area. The Hill Cumorah in Manchester, New York, is where Joseph Smith received visitations from the angel Moroni and retrieved the gold plates that contained the record now known as the Book of Mormon.”
The Church says they’ll preserve the area in three ways.
- Remove pageant infrastructure and all other nonhistorical facilities
- Rehabilitate the landscape
- Upgrade the messaging of the hill’s historical and sacred significance
Another announcement made by The Church Friday, For the Strength of Youth conferences are returning.
“Latter-day Saint youth in the United States and Canada will be able to attend For the Strength of Youth (FSY) conferences again beginning in the summers of 2022 and 2023. The conferences, provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were postponed over the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
