Grass fire near Salt Lake City International Airport causes road closure

SALT LAKE CITY — A grass fire that started near I-215 and S.R. 201 near the Salt Lake City International Airport caused a road closure Wednesday morning.

Salt Lake City Fire Captain Shaun Mumedy said the fire traveled to adjacent businesses. It only affected the exterior.
“The structure of that business was not involved,” he said. “They had some exterior packaging materials… that were affected and caught fire.”
The cost of damages is not yet known.
Multiple agencies responded, including the Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake fire departments, Mumedy said.
SLC Fire Department said on its Twitter the fire was under control around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Wildland Fire near I-215 and SR 201 is Under Control at this time. Westbound on-ramp to SR201 from I-215 will remain closed for approximately another hour.

A few hours later, at around 2:30 p.m. UDOT Traffic posted a tweet reporting that a southbound I-215 west ramp to westbound S.R.-201 closed due to the blaze.

Mumedy said the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
