CLEARFIELD, Utah — The Clearfield Police Department released Friday the identities of the victims in Wednesday’s double homicide.

Police say Thomas Walker, 87, and Janice Walker, 85, were found deceased Wednesday afternoon in the garage attached to their home at 681 N. 1050 West around 3 p.m.

The couple were discovered by a 60-year-old woman who also lived at the home. She remained inside the garage until first responders arrived on scene.

Once on scene, law enforcement personnel determined that the victims had suffered fatal injuries and were beyond help. First responders escorted the woman to safety and surrounded the house.

The woman’s 26-year-old son, who was in the house, called the woman, who allowed an officer to speak with him. The officer encouraged the man to leave the house. A short time later, the 26-year-old man existed the house and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, who has been identified as Jeremy Belt, is the grandson of the victims. Belt has been booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of two counts of aggravated murder, assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Additionally, he was also booked for investigation of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

Detectives say there were other acts of violence between the suspect and the victims that occurred earlier in the day but were not reported.

Police also say the victims were members of the Clearfield City Citizens Patrol for more than 10 years.

The investigation into the Clearfield double homicide is ongoing.
