SALT LAKE CITY — The husband attends Utah Valley University, the wife goes to BYU. Both, Evan West and Ashley West, have taken first place in a digital art competition for college students.
Their digital design has a red and white rocket ship surrounded by meteors, planets, and stars. According to a press release, the image “jumps right off the screen to greet passersby.”
The contest was held by LG Electronics in mid-December. According to the sponsor’s web page, students across the country were invited to submit original 3D animation artwork. The Wests won $25,000, and a new computer monitor from the digital art competition.
Also, their design was featured on the LG billboard in Times Square.
Evan West is a motion designer who wants to get into animation. Ashley West is an illustrator, textile artist, and clothing designer.
“We wanted to participate in the showcase because it was an exciting way to combine our talents,” said Evan West. “Working together was a sweet spot of creativity because we could bounce off of each other and give really good feedback and really just change the project to go to a place that I wouldn’t have taken it,” he said.
