OGDEN, Utah — Ogden City Police have launched a campaign reminding citizens to safely secure their firearms.
The Secure Your Firearms campaign includes a video launched on YouTube and on their social media channels, where they cite an increase in stolen handguns.
They also cite a national statistic claiming that less than 2% of state and federal prisoners legally obtained the firearms used in their convicting crimes.
Suggestions from Ogden police include rethinking certain bumper stickers on your car. They said that ‘pro-weapons’ stickers make your car a target for gun thieves. And they remind residents to lock their car doors. Most handgun thefts occur when they are left in an unlocked car.
Police also strongly suggest that residents use a firearm safe in the home.
