HIGHLAND, Utah — A roof collapsed on a home on Sierra Drive in Highland, Utah on Sunday morning due to snow accumulation.

Despite the destruction, the family was able to evacuate safely.

The situation was promptly responded to by firefighters on Mountain Green Engine 131, who arrived on the scene to assess the damage.

The firefighters took gas leak readings and retrieved medications, keys, and phones for the family.

The firefighters had to wear snowshoes to reach the rear yard and take control of the utilities buried under several feet of snow.

The family was able to make arrangements to stay with friends.

The majority of the collapse occurred in the garage, which did not have any vehicles inside.

The county Building Inspector will check the structure today, but signs of major structural damage are apparent throughout.
