SALT LAKE CITY – The weather’s slowly getting warmer, so it’s time to start spring cleaning!

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, host Maria Shilaos spoke with Author and dClutterfly Founder Tracy McCubbin to discuss what spring cleaning is and how to get ready for it.

Spring cleaning can be really helpful with mentally renewing ourselves. One thing you should know is that there are three steps to it.

“Decluttering, organizing, and cleaning are three separate tasks,” McCubbin said.

Decluttering is about letting go of the things you don’t want, need, or use. Organizing is about deciding where you want them to stay. And then cleaning is about making sure all the dirty spots look fresh.

“I always feel like—in this process—decluttering is the best place to start, especially with the change of seasons,” McCubbin said.

Decluttering is also a great first step because cleaning and organizing become much easier with a lighter load.

For those who feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, McCubbin suggests figuring out why you want to declutter and organize in the first place. One thing to note is that the intention is very important.

“When you have a positive outcome attached to why you’re doing it, it keeps you motivated,” McCubbin said.

One of the common goals she hears from her clients is that they just want to get some space from all the loud clutter.

“When you clear out the clutter, all of a sudden you have a little more peace and quiet. You have less stuff to deal with,” McCubbin said.
