SALT LAKE CITY — Are you getting a good quality of sleep every day? Or do you have problems sleeping at night?

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, host Maria Shilaos spoke with Renowned Physiologist and Sleep Expert Dr. Nerina Ramlakhan to learn about the importance of healthy sleeping habits and how we can practice those habits daily.

Getting a good night’s sleep is very important for us because it can restore us physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually.

“There’s a reason why nature has designed us to spend a third of our lives sleeping,” Dr. Ramlakhan said.

However, there are so many people who have a tough time sleeping at night. Dr. Ramlakhan believes part of the reason is because of the speed of life.

“Our world is constantly demanding us to keep going… social media, the news, constant information bombarding the brain,” she said.

One of the most common questions Dr. Ramlakhan gets from people has to do with the appropriate amount of sleep. She emphasized that although the recommended time is 7 to 9 hours per night, it’s more about the quality of sleep and how you feel when you wake up in the morning.

“If you’re getting 5 or 6 hours and you feel great, that’s probably good for you,” she said.
