SALT LAKE CITY – There are many times when people rely on pharmaceuticals to help treat their chronic health conditions. However, lifestyle changes are still important even if you take medication.

In the latest Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast episode, Maria Shilaos spoke with Troy Duell, Health Educator and Pharmaceutical Insider, to learn how you can improve your health by making some simple changes in your lifestyle.

Medicine has evolved to become the quicker, more convenient solution that it is today. That doesn’t always mean it’s the best solution for everyone.

“We as a culture have adopted that. We look for the easy and not necessarily what’s the best for us. I think we need to change that mentality within ourselves and the culture as a whole,” Duell said.

So how do you incorporate healthier lifestyle changes?

The first step he recommends taking is to have an honest evaluation of your health. Keep a record of whatever you’re suffering from physically or mentally. Most importantly, make sure you’re doing this with a health practitioner.

Based on the conditions, Duell suggests asking them for solutions that aren’t just satisfied with a pill or a medication.

“We know that a great deal of that comes with diet and exercise. It’s always those simple things that will help propel our health to greater levels,” he said.

Remember to take ownership of your own health. You are the only person who can really take charge to improve your health.
