OREM, Utah  — Investigators say a fire that burned down a multi-million dollar house in Orem last week, lighting up the night sky, was intentionally set.

And not only was the Orem house fire intentionally set, but investigators said that some sort of fire accelerant was used.

At a press conference on Thursday, Assistant Orem Fire Chief Shaun Hirst said that because the home was under construction they expected it to burn quickly.

“But as we examined the scene, we believe the rate of spread of that fire was not conducive to normal fire behavior.”

At the time of the fire, the home was for sale for around $4 million.

The fire began on the evening of Dec. 26 and required multiple fire agencies to extinguish.

Investigators have set up a dedicated tip-line, and ask anyone with any information to give them a call. The number is 801-229-7979.
