EDEN, Utah — Nordic Valley Ski Resort closed until further notice on Monday after an early morning fire destroyed the resort’s only lodge.
Weber County Fire was dispatched to the ski resort’s lodge around 2 a.m. Monday to put out a fire.
One of the resort employees called the resort’s General Manager, Pascal Begin, when they noticed something happening at the lodge.
“[They] saw some flames coming out of our main lodge, coming out of our barn,” Begin said.
The lodge didn’t burn down to the ground but Begin said it’ll fall soon. At this point, the lodge is a total loss.
“Devastating for sure… the barn, that old main lodge, if you’ve skied here, you know it was an iconic building that’s been standing here in the Eden Valley since 1968,” Begin said.
The lodge housed the resort’s restrooms, retail shop, restaurant and ticket office. With the loss of the ticket office, the resort won’t be able to sell tickets until they figure out some alternatives.
Begin said the resort is completely closed for the foreseeable future. But the good news is, none of the lifts or ski areas were affected, so he’s optimistic they can get skiers back on the mountain as soon as possible.
While Begin said it’s devastating to lose a building that’s been an icon in the valley since 1968, he said he’s glad it was the only loss.
“There was no one that was hurt, so that kind of was priority one. Everybody’s safe.”
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
