SALT LAKE CITY — Governor Spencer Cox signed a bill this week that will ban the sale of flavored vape products in the state.

The bill specifically targets fruit, dessert, spice, mint and candy flavors.

This restriction on flavored vape products is an effort to reduce the number of teen vaping addictions in Utah.

The bill was sponsored by  Sen. Jen Plumb, D-Salt Lake, a physician. She is also the co-founder of Utah Naloxone, an organization focusing on the opioid crisis.

During the process of passing this bill, she cited data from the Center of Disease Control that said teens are more likely to use e-cigarette products with a flavor variety. Menthol and tobacco flavors of vapes will still be available in the state.

The law will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
