LEHI, Utah – Lehi City officials are ramping up a plan to revitalize historic downtown. They are asking the public for their feedback on early plans for the Lehi redevelopment.
“We have this older downtown, but at the same time, we have the tech area. (And) Thanksgiving Pointe. We have these different ‘centers,’ and this is one of those key centers that we want to keep vibrant,” said Kim Struthers, the development director for Lehi City.
Lehi City is in the planning stage of this redevelopment. Struthers said priorities are already forming.
“People want to make sure we don’t tear down some of the key historic buildings,” he said. “They really want to preserve that historic feel. That’s kind of the charm and the whole draw to that area.”
While preserving the charm and historic scenery of the area is important, locals also want parking to be convenient. One of the goals is not to disrupt the area’s appearance.
According to Struthers, residents have expressed a desire for matching architecture and less emphasis on chain stores.
“We want to make sure we’re keeping the right scale,” said Struthers.
Additionally, Struthers stressed that ADA accessibility is also a priority. The city is consulting with transportation firm Parametrics and Township & Range to ensure disabled or elderly tenants can safely enjoy downtown.
The first draft of the Lehi redevelopment plan will probably go public early next year. The study phase of the plan will not be finished until March 2025.
Until then, a tentative timeline is listed on the city’s website.
