MILLCREEK, Utah — Salt Lake County Youth Services opened a new facility in Millcreek on Friday.
Earlier today, the ribbon-cutting ceremony had speakers involved in the Milestone Program.
Their live-in manager Cameron Thompson entered the program himself during his senior year of high school.
He spoke about how looking back in the beginning he didn’t believe he could reach the goals all young adults strive for.
“I was then presented with the opportunity to be on the youth action board, and after all this, Milestone made me understand, that I can,” Thompson said.
With the program’s resources and mentorship, Thompson graduated high school, attended college, and will now help young adults like himself believe they can too.
The Milestone Program is the only program in Salt Lake City County that specifically helps young adults 18 to 21 get on their feet.
The new facility in Millcreek is the largest they have to date, accommodating an additional 18 beds. Young adults with the program will move in on Monday.
“So when I see this building, and all the people who put days, or weeks and months into making this a reality, I don’t see kids that can’t. I don’t see kids that could. I see kids that can,” Thompson shared.
