SALT LAKE CITY— The primary election race for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District House seat is not only still too close to call, but the margin between the two candidates has shrunk in the past 24 hours.

As of Wednesday morning, incumbent congresswoman Celeste Maloy had more than 2,800 more votes than challenger Colby Jenkins.

As of Thursday morning, that lead shrunk by almost 1,000 votes, according to the latest state data.

In terms of percentage, Maloy is still leading the race from 51% to just about 49%.

A big reason why Maloy’s lead shrunk Wednesday is because of growing support for Jenkins among Washington County voters.

On Wednesday, Jenkins had roughly 3,000 more votes than Maloy in Washington County. As of Thursday morning, that lead grew to almost 5,000 votes.

Maloy still leads Jenkins in the majority of the district’s 13 counties, including in Salt Lake and Davis Counties.

Votes are still being counted. Stay with KSL NewsRadio for the latest developments in the race for the Utah’s 2nd Congressional District House seat.
