SALT LAKE CITY — The latest look at housing shows more young single women are homeowners than young single men.
The report by LendingTree shows that, nationally, two million more young single women own homes than young single men.
Dr. Susan Madsen, Director of the Utah Women and Leadership Project at Utah State University said one trend shows women sharing the expense with friends.
“Some women are just purchasing homes with their … friends, because of the expense of housing,” Madsen said.
Madsen said that women want stability. They don’t want to put money into rentals.
“There’s this statement that we’ve said for years, ‘A man is not a financial plan,'” she said. “Women really thrive and want … and yearn for more stability than a lot of men.”
According to Madsen, women view homeownership as a long-term investment. Also, the numbers could reflect the fact that generally there are more women than men.
