SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s governor will soon be on his way to Paris for the 2024 Olympics. He said the minute the Utah delegation gets to Paris, they will begin preparations for their final bid proposal for the 2034 Winter Games.
Then, on July 24th, they hope to hear the IOC announce that Salt Lake City’s proposal has won.
Only after that is complete will the Gov. Cox have a chance to take in some of the Games in Paris, which he couldn’t do during Salt Lake’s Olympic Games in 2002.
“We didn’t go to any events, we walked around downtown […] but I’ve still never seen a live Olympic event, so I am really looking forward to that,” Cox said.
As the Utah governor is heading to Paris, he said he will pay special attention to the security efforts for future reference.
“Security was an issue then, you remember with 9-11 in 2002, but a big issue with these games would be looking at how they are doing security,” Cox said.
Gov. Cox expects the 2034 Olympic Games will be futuristic. He said he is anticipating there will be air taxis by that time.
“We expect to see the first air taxes at an Olympics in 2028. We think we’ll have them here in 2034 as well, which is kind of Jetsons-ish,” Cox said.
