SALT LAKE CITY — More Utah homes have pools than ever before, causing people to lean toward building a pool in their backyard. According to Realtor.com, the number of Utah home listings with a swimming pool has almost doubled since 2017.
Owner of Blue Glass Pool Plastering Jason Hosking says his company saw a wave of demand for pools during the pandemic.
“Seems like from COVID on, the demands just skyrocketed.,” Hosking said. “Obviously as things accelerate, then a lot more people want to be involved in something that’s becoming more profitable.”
Hosking said there’s been a big jump in pool builders because of the added demand and warns anyone getting a pool to make sure the builder has experience.
“A lot of people jump in with minimal experience,” Hosking said. “Some of the regulations in Utah compared to other areas make it easy for people to get pool-dozing licenses.”
This can mean people may start a pool-building business with little to no experience.
Hosking added that vetting companies is important if you’re going to take the plunge with a new pool.
If you’re looking to install a pool, Hosking recommends finding a pool-building company with a lot of reviews that have been around for at least a few years.
