SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Salt Lake City.
With a combination of wind and low humidity, fire risk levels are very high.
According to the National Weather Service, “A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now … or are imminent.”
The warning goes into effect on Wednesday, September 11 at 11 a.m. It will last until midnight.
Affected areas are highlighted in pink on the map below via the NWS:
Winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 MPH with gusts up to 40 MPH. Humidity will reach as low as 6% to 12%.
With the combination of conditions, new fires could ignite very easily. Existing fires could spread more rapidly.
The NWS advised that Utah limit creating risks of fire. The advice includes not throwing cigarettes or matches out of cars, and never leaving a fire unintended as even a spark could ignite a fire.
