SALT LAKE CITY — It’s a sleek sexy race car. The McLaren P1 is a classic. Top speed 217 mph — zero to 60 in two and a half seconds.
These are automotive engineers describing their designs.
They’re building a McLaren replica. And the coolest part? These engineers are from Lego — and they built a full-size McLaren P1 that is driveable.
And behind the wheel? Formula One Race Car Driver Lando Norris.
The challenge is one lap of the Silverstone Circuit. It’s a racetrack in England where Norris got behind the wheel of this car made 100% out of Legos, except for the chassis, the instrument cluster and the tires.
Come on Lando step on it — or wait. Lego. Don’t.
I know what you’re wondering. Is the engine made of Legos? Yep.
So around the track, the car went. One lap, with custom interlocking Legos forming the curvaceous skin of a classic racecar made from 340,000 blocks. Even the driver’s seat is Lego. So why’d they do this?
You can buy a driveable Lego McLaren P1 for $449. But the one they’ll sell is remote control. And it’s only two feet long.
