SALT LAKE CITY — Think back to life as a teenager, because they’ve just released the list of Utah’s favorite make-out spots.
The most popular places in the state where young couples in love would pull over and practice modesty. Or something approximating it. Not my business.
I’m kind of at a loss here. Because when I was a teenager, I wasn’t in Utah. According to this survey, the number one make-out spot in America is the Road to Hana on Maui. I drove the Hana Highway, my beautiful wife in the passenger seat. I think I was 55, I got the music cranked and my wife told me to ‘slow down buddy.’
She thought I was driving too fast on the hairpins. And guys, as we all know, nothing says romance like an active co-pilot am I right?
So I have nothing on this subject, but according to this poll, Utah’s favorite make-out spot is The Zion Highway in Zion National Park. Where I was also told to slow down. The car.
Second on the list is the Alpine Loop, a mesmerizing byway in autumn. And when I drove it with my lovely wife beside me, my 80-year-old mom was in the backseat and she told me to slow down. The car. Yes. We had a chaperone. I’m a loser when it comes to makeout spots.
Third on the Utah list is the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. I’ve yet to drive it, but if I do, I’m pretty sure I’ll get back on SR-32 in Kamas with my modesty intact.
