SALT LAKE CITY — I was just going out to walk the dogs. A little sojourn through the neighborhood with my lovely wife and feisty pups. But before we grab the leash, my wife looks at me and says “No.”
And I’m like, what is it this time? My baseball cap’s not on backward. No stains on my T-shirt. What?
She says your socks. They’re too high.
I have some socks that go up over the ankle — and another five inches north. She said, “You look like an old man.” And I said, “I am!”
But apparently, I’m young at heart because look at the youngest among us. The newest trend among the youth — long socks.
Yes, your circumspect little ankle socks are out. Modestly hiding your calves is in with Gen Z, ages 12-27.
The longer the socks the better. Knee length? Cool as ice. As the young do, they reject the fashion choices of their millennial parents. If you wear those barely-seen little ankle socks that hide inside your shoes, male or female, you’re now a fogie.
J-Law was wearing short socks that only covered the nub of your ankle. Making her a loser.
But not me. Thanks to these kids who covet their elderly aunts’ and uncles’ vintage style, I am cool again. Or I wish I was. My wife still says, no. Just no.
