SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah County attorney has announced that he is seeking the death penalty against the man accused of killing a Santaquin police sergeant.
Prosecutor Jeffrey S. Gray filed notice Wednesday to seek the death penalty for Michael Jayne. Jayne is being held without bail for the murder of Sgt. Bill Hooser on May 2024.
Jayne is accused of driving his 18-wheeler semi truck into Sgt. Hooser while he was standing outside of his car.
Sgt. Hooser died on the scene.
Jayne was allegedly fleeing from Sgt. Hooser and another Utah Highway Patrol trooper after they attempted to detain him on I-15.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
