SALT LAKE CITY — Pilates is everywhere on social media. As popular as it is, it’s certainly not an easy workout. But it does come with amazing health benefits if you are consistent.
In the latest Let’s Get Moving podcast episode, host Maria Shilaos spoke with Collin and Heidi Christensen, owners of BODYBAR Pilates, to learn how reformer Pilates in particular can change a person’s life.
What is reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates that uses reformer machines. These machines have adjustable springs, so you can change the spring tension if needed.
“We can do upper body [and] lower body. Everything is core-centric, but it gives you a full range of movement,” Heidi said.
Wall Pilates is another type of Pilates that is currently trending on social media. For this particular type, there is no machine. Instead, you use the wall to help keep your body in the right angle.
“You’ll lie up against the wall so that when you’re lowering and lifting your leg, you’re staying in the right muscles that [you] want to target,” Heidi said.
Who should try Pilates?
Pilates can be helpful for people of all ages and fitness levels. This low-impact exercise can help people who want to improve their core strength, flexibility, and endurance.
“Anyone from someone who just wants to move their body and hasn’t been working out to pro-athletes who are very active [can benefit from Pilates],” Collin said.
