FARMINGTON, Utah — The Davis County Sheriff’s Office has suspended an active search for its missing police dog, K9 Kash.
The office reported that K9 Kash was missing on Oct. 22.
On Facebook, the sheriff’s office reported “it had exhausted all ground and aerial searches,” and “investigated every tip.”
The German Shorthaired Pointer ran away from handlers at the Davis County jail on Monday night, Oct. 21. They’d taken him outside for a bathroom break when he ran toward nearby foot trails.
Trainers were training Kash to detect drugs.
“He is being trained right now on drug narcotics detection,” said Stephanie Dinsmore, a spokesperson for Davis County Sheriff’s Office. “He’s not a bite dog. He’s not an aggressive animal.”
The sheriff’s office said they believe someone may have the dog, and does not realize he is a missing police dog.
The office said they will continue to follow leads and will keep information about K9 Kash available on social media and on flyers.
If you have information, please call Davis County Sheriff’s dispatch at 801-451-4150.
He’s reportedly a friendly dog, in case anybody sees him, Davis County officials said.
“If they’re comfortable being in the area with him, and keeping a visual, that would be wonderful,” said Stephanie Dinsmore, a spokesperson for Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
“If not, if you’re able to call in with that tip, that would be greatly appreciated.”
K9 Kash’s disappearance marks the second time in the last five years that a canine officer has bolted from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
A police dog escaped from its kennel in 2019. A car hit and killed him after he ran into the street.
