Man arrested for allegedly threatening people with BB gun at Liberty Park

SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a 58-year-old man at Liberty Park on Thursday afternoon. The man allegedly pointed a BB gun, which closely resembled a real gun, at several people.
According to the Liberty Patrol Division at the Salt Lake City Police Department, police were notified just after 2 p.m. that a man had a weapon inside the park located near 600 E. 1300 S.
Witnesses told officers that 58-year-old Rafael Manzanilla Perez pointed the BB gun toward five people. Bystanders tackled Perez, taking the weapon and as well as a knife he allegedly had from him.
Police took Perez to the Salt Lake County Jail, where he remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
Perez is suspected of five counts of aggravated assault and one count of providing false information to a police officer.
