SALT LAKE CITY — With gas prices falling Utah’s got some happy drivers nowadays.
In just the last month, the cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has fallen 27 cents from $3.47 to $3.20 a gallon according to AAA at the time of publication.
AAA Spokesperson Julian Paredes told KSL NewsRadio there are a few likely reasons for this, one being less people are out taking road trips, which is customary for this time of year.
Paredes also said most refineries in the region are fully operational and they’ve moved on from the summer blend of gasoline, which is typically more expensive.
And if this year is anything like normal, prices might not be done dropping.
“We haven’t hit the bottom yet, and that’s probably the good news,” Paredes said. “Prices tend to keep going down up until December and January … that’s when traditionally gas prices are at their lowest.”
Paredes also said this actually is looking like the most normal year for the gas market since 2019.
If things stay steady, Paredes said prices likely won’t rise again until Spring.
