SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — Drivers may want to have alternate routes planned if they regularly use Bangerter Highway due to weekend construction.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the overnight closure starts on Friday at 10 p.m. and lasts through Saturday at 5 a.m.
In a press release, UDOT said both directions of Bangerter Highway will close from 9000 S. to 10400 S. to install a new pedestrian bridge.
Drivers will detour onto 2700 or 4000 W. and then back onto Bangerter Highway. A map of the detour is available on the UDOT website.
The new pedestrian bridge provides access to nearby neighborhoods, Elk Meadows Elementary School and Elk Ridge Middle School, per UDOT.
In the long term, UDOT plans to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter by converting intersections into interchanges.
According to the release this has been a “decades-long effort.”
Other weekend construction
According to UDOT, Salt Lake City will see multiple ramp and lane closures as crews install overhead signs.
On Friday, the on-ramp from 500 S. will close from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
On Sunday, three southbound lanes from 900 S. to 1300 S. and the off-ramp to exit 305 C-A (1300 S., 2100 S. and westbound SR-201) will close.
Additionally, two lanes on I-15 in both directions from 5300 S. to 4500 S. will be closed. Both closures take place from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.
