Ogden Airport kicks off $4.4 million expansion project

OGDEN, Utah — Ogden-Hinckley Airport is getting an upgrade.

City leaders kicked off a 10-month expansion project Monday that will bring big changes to the small terminal that was originally built in the 1950s.

“It’s a big day for Ogden city,” said Mayor Ben Nadolski at a groundbreaking ceremony outside the terminal.

The project will cost $4.4 million, according to Nadolski, most of which comes from federal funds. It will include a new entrance, more space, expanded pick-up and drop-off areas, and indoor baggage claim.

“It’s an addition of new amenities. To make the facility look better and more professional,” Nadolski told KSL TV. “It’s going to be a lot more inviting and welcoming.”

The expansion is expected to be finished by October, according to airport director Brian Condie.

“But we’re trying to get it done a little bit earlier than that, in September,” Condie added, “because we don’t like the cold weather.”

 

Condie said the project is what the city can do to try to attract more airlines and destinations. Currently, Breeze Airways offers a few flights a week from Ogden to Orange County, California.

Gloria Clayville, who lives in Layton, traveled there on Monday to visit her daughter. She said she has flown out of the Ogden airport twice.

“The good thing is, it’s convenient,” Clayville said. “It’s so quick.”

She said she would like to see more destinations offered in the future.

“We like it here,” Clayville said. “Hopefully it will expand.”

During construction, the city said passengers can access the terminal from the south side on a designated pedestrian path, and the airport’s restaurant will stay open.
