SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s schools have moved classes online to fight the spread of the Coronavirus. But they can still get free breakfasts and lunches on campus.

The Utah State Board of Education has launched a new interactive, online map to help parents and students find the free breakfasts and lunches at their neighborhood schools.

Child Nutrition Program Director Kathleen Britton says hunger does not stop just because of the Coronavirus.

“This helps parents alleviate the burden of providing meals right now during this trying time. And it’s open to any children 18 and under in their area,” Britton said.

Different dots on the map show which schools are serving meals and whether they’re offering breakfast and lunch or just lunch.

Britton says most schools are offering these meals “to-go”.

She says the goal of the map is to make it easier for both parents and schools.

“This allows us to give more accessibility to parents to see where the [schools] are located and also to make it more user-friendly instead of them having to call…their school districts,” Britton says.

The map will be updated nightly and will stay online until school starts up again.

This isn’t the first time the Utah State Board of Education has created a school meal map. They do it every summer.
