Salt Lake City Council candidate says swear-laden, ‘hateful’ email over soliciting came from one of Utah’s Assistant Attorney Generals

SALT LAKE CITY — A candidate for Salt Lake City’s City Council says a “hateful” email he got after canvassing in his district came from one of Utah’s Assistant Attorneys General.

Darin Mano is the current member of the Salt Lake City Council and is running for re-election in District 5. He told KSL Newsradio after canvassing in his district Saturday with some of his volunteers, he got an email from Steven A Wuthrich, who lived at one of the doors he knocked.

“It said some really hateful things, and some threatening language as well.”

Mano said his staff searched the name on the email and found out Wuthrich works for the Utah Attorney General’s office.

KSL Newsradio received a copy of that email, which is the same email Mano posted to Facebook without the email address. The email domain was from Wuthrich Law.

“And that’s where it felt like a person in that position should be held to a bit higher standard, I feel like I should be held to a higher standard, and public servants should be held to a higher standard,” Mano said.

The ‘hateful’ email takes issue with Mano knocking and leaving a flyer on his door.

“I hate you, I hate your family, I hate your solicitors, I hate your contributors, I hate your sponsors, Kindly die and go to h*** motherf*****!!!” the email reads.

Mano is also Asian-American and a gay father, and says he left a flyer with his contact information with a picture of his family at the doors he knocked on this weekend.

“Of course this email doesn’t explicitly say that the reasons why this person is upset are because I’m a minority or I’m gay, but, I’m always aware that I’m shining a light on my family who is a bit different and part of a minority group, and so seeing that kinda brings home some of those concerns,” said Mano.

The Utah Attorney General’s office said Wuthrich does work for them, and they are investigating this email.

“We’re looking into it for possible disciplinary action,” said Spokesman Ric Cantrell.

This story is developing and will be updated.
